POLITICAL EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM (PEP) |  | | | | PAIMAN is committed to political empowerment of communities: an initiative to educate men and women in the art of politics and leadership through meaningful advocacy campaigns, seminars and capacity development workshops. | | PAIMAN as a part of its political/civic education program conducts, on regular basis, series of capacity building trainings of women political leaders, political activists, potential leaders across Pakistan in Gender Budgeting, Human Rights, Gender Justice, Gender Mainstreaming, Monitoring Committees, Gender Responsive Governance, Legislative agenda setting, constituency servicing, networking, advocacy and democratization etc. | | PAIMAN being a member of Free & Fair Election Network (FAFEN) focuses on mobilizing communities for strengthening democracy in the country. From this platform objective and non-partisan quality political research is carried out in the shape of Briefing and position Papers, Case Studies, Reports for the benefit of legislators, Election Commission of Pakistan, political parties, the media, civil society organizations and the public. PAIMAN has implemented major programs regarding capacity building. | | PAIMAN is also a member of SNAP (Solutions Network of Asia Pacific) which is a project of UNDP. | | 2. PAIMAN ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT NETWORK (PEEN) | | | | | PEEN is aimed at providing sustainable livelihood to poverty-ridden households through capacity building and loan without interest. From the platform of PEEN 700 women and 150 men have been trained in various skills including modification of the products, market strategies, business plans, and have also provided opportunities to marginalized women and men in generating a regular income in some of the poorest regions of Pakistan. | | Hidden Hands | | Hidden Hands, an initiative of PEEN, patronizes marginalized women artisans according to principles of “fair trade” with an aim to preserve and revive the extinct heritage and traditional crafts of Pakistani culture through exquisite products of timeless beauty. Women members of PEEN under the name of Hidden Hands have opened their outlets in different cities of Pakistan and they also carry out exhibition of their products both inside and outside Pakistan on regular basis. | | Jwandoon | | PAIMAN has established three institutes for skill building and livelihood (income generation) opportunities for marginalized communities and IDPs by the name of JWANDOON (Pashto word meaning ‘The Life’) at Peshawar, Mirpur Sakro and Mardan (especially for women, male and female youth IDPs). Jwandoon is empowering them by combining three traditionally separate areas; (1) functional literacy education, (2) livelihood skills training or non-formal vocational training and (3) economic support via small-scale credits, grants and basic entrepreneurship/business training. | | 3. PEACE BUILDING AND CONFLICT TRANSFORMATION | | | | | PAIMAN is a leading organization working on Peace Building and Conflict Transformation. PAIMAN believes that living with peace is a fundamental right of every human being regardless any discrimination. The current situation of the world, enhancing extremism, intolerance, anxiety among masses and the sense of deprivation welcome all the civil society organizations to join hands and take certain initiatives to build peace and transform conflict. War against terror and the incidents like 9/11 impacted a lot in the region. Keeping in view the current situation and need PAIMAN took following initiatives. | | Regional Centre for Peace Building and Conflict Transformation | | Periodic surveys and research study regarding socio-political and economic dimension of conflict, impact of conflict on youth and women in FATA and other parts of NWFP are carried out. PAIMAN has established a Regional Centre for Conflict Transformation & Peace Building in Peshawar which will act as a resource centre and training institute on the subject for the region and beyond and provides material, information and trainings to the communities especially belonging to the conflicting areas. PAIMAN has initiated phase-wise orientation of various stake holders including the elected representatives, government officials, clergy, teachers, journalists, youth and female from FATA in conflict transformation and peace building. | | Roundtable Conferences | | PAIMAN conducts roundtable conferences on regular basis with various stakeholders in Pakistan including political parties, CSOs, media, diplomats, government officials and community members especially from FATA to discuss the prevailing peace issues and recommends various solutions to the authorities etc. | | Tollana | | A youth group called ‘TOLANA’ consisting of both male and female members from all seven agencies of FATA and six FR regions carry out community meetings to sensitize their respective communities on the impact of radicalization on the socio-economic fabric of the area and mobilize them to work for peace and conflict transformation. | | 4. Disaster and Crisis Management | | | | | Disaster and Crisis Management, Reduction and Recovery are one of the core objectives of PAIMAN. In this regard PAIMAN has taken following major initiatives. | | Earthquake in Pakistan year 2005 |  | PAIMAN has assisted the victims of earthquake in year 2005. PAIMAN distributed 102 trucks of food and non-food items and cash aid of Rs. 3 million for earthquake victims in 2005, besides providing health and education facilities in the camps. | | PAIMAN conducted a research on school safety in context of children on Earthquake risk reduction in schools. The research was conducted after the earthquake in Pakistan year 2005. | | Supported Relief and Early recovery Operations in Floods | | Flood in Sindh in Dadu, Jamshoro and Thatta districts in 2007 | | Floods in NWFP in districts of Charsadda, Peshawar and Khyber Agency 2008 | | Floods in Rajanpur and DG Khan in 2008 | | PAIMAN provided shelter, food and other basic necessities of life during the flood period in the targeted districts and transported many victims during the floods. | | Conflict Zone Disasters | | PAIMAN laid out extensive health and education support during IDPs displacement after Bajaur operations were conducted in FATA during August 2008, which is still continuing in the camps in Charsadda and Peshawar. | | During Swat operations PAIMAN provided extensive support in evacuation of IDPs from Swat and Malakand. | | PAIMAN is extensively working for the IDPs of Swat, Malakand, Buner, Dir and Bajaur and Mohmand Agencies. Following efforts have been made in this regard (refer to IDPs Newsletters attached). - PAIMAN established its exclusive camp (self help basis) for IDPs at Sabzi Mandi, Sheikh Maltoon, and Mardan for over hundred families (Over 700 IDPs presently.
- PAIMAN is looking after over 4000 IDPs living with host communities in Mardan, Charsadda and Swabi districts

| | 5. Capacity Building and Human Resource Development | | | | | Capacity Building is a core competency of PAIMAN. Its resource team (over 300 trainers and resource persons) covering almost all districts of Pakistan, is gender balanced and multi-disciplinary, highly qualified and experienced in mobilization, training methodologies, research, needs assessment analysis, curriculum development and capacity development having command over English, Urdu, Sindhi, Pashto, Punjabi, Saraiki and other local languages. PAIMAN has conducted hundreds of capacity building trainings for different projects and programs all over Pakistan and has developed material for in-house and field trainings. During these trainings thousands of individuals, professionals, NGOs, CBOs, CSOs, Govt. staff, have been trained on the above-mentioned subjects. Following is a major example of the projects. | | The Asia Foundation partner’s Capacity Building Program | | PAIMAN has implemented an exclusive capacity building program for 34 partner’s organizations of The Asia Foundation under Free and Fair Election Network. PAIMAN organized/conducted a series of over 150 training sessions in three phases on the monitoring of general election in Pakistan. The training was based on the monitoring aspects and Parallel Voting Tabulation (PVT), monitoring of code of conduct and campaign etc and based on the training the partner organizations implemented Election Observation all over Pakistan which is the biggest election monitoring in the third world and has been recognized all over the world. | | Capacity Building Thematic Organization | | PAIMAN is a thematic lead organization for Free and Fair Election Network under the support of The Asia Foundation therefore PAIMAN developed a group of Master Trainers and trained them on various political, voters and democratic education, these master trainers further trained all partner organizations staff all over the country. | | Political Education Training Program of US Embassy | | Under the Political Education Training Program of US embassy PAIMAN conducts series of training programs on a variety of topics related to democracy and political education for the influential, Civil Society Organizations, Political Parties, Activists, NGOs, Academicians and Professors etc. | | Capacity Building at International Level | | PAIMAN is a country member of South Asian Fund Raising Association (SAFA) covering seven countries in the region since year 2006 and takes delegations/ individuals, NGO representatives, donor organizations, govt. employees etc to India and Sri Lanka on regular yearly basis on the capacity building training program on Fundraising, Linkages development, organization development etc. | | Project Based Capacity Building Trainings | | PAIMAN also conducts various trainings at grassroots level under its own projects/programs at various levels. | | 6. Community Development and Mobilization | | | | | PAIMAN works with communities at grass-roots level through its existing network of active male and female members across Pakistan. We conduct needs assessment, mobilize communities and help build their capacities to play a meaningful role in their communities .We have developed Active Citizens Groups in over 30 districts of Pakistan to work with local people, create awareness on various issues including health, education, violence against women, livelihood development, human and other resources of the area and help build a constituency vision and Action Plan and liaise with government officials as well elected representatives at local, provincial and national level. | | 7. Research and Survey | | | | | PAIMAN conducts researches and surveys on various thematic areas to plan and implement the programs and projects according to the needs and requirements of the communities. The experts at PAIMAN design the research tools and analyze and prepare reports based on researches. PAIMAN has conducted following major researches on various fields. | | Peace and Conflict Resolution - FATA Research: | | PAIMAN conducted a comprehensive rigorous research contained 39 basic questions from 700 respondents on Conflict in FATA (Tribal areas) in the context of current situation. The research covers a variety of areas including Religion, Taliban, Extremism, Socio Economic culture, Militancy in Islam, Suicide attacks, Gender, American/NATO war in Afghanistan, Pak Govt. role in FATA, Political parties in FATA etc it is a first research of its kind in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). | | Constituency Aspiration Survey: | | PAIMAN conducted Constituency Aspiration Survey in 40 National Assembly Constituencies including 29 National Assembly Constituencies of Sindh, 5NAs in NWFP and 6NAs of Punjab. The research was based on CRUSH GRID methodology. A comprehensive survey format was established to gather all the information and issues of the communities at grassroots level. Constituency Aspiration Survey project conducted with the collaboration of FAFEN. | | Parliament Watch Program (Parliament Research) | | Parliament Watch Project has been implemented to gage the performance of the elected representatives in the National and provincial assemblies. PAIMAN is observing NWFP assembly. A comprehensive research format has been developed and utilized to gather the information regarding the each session of the assembly. The Program is funded by The Asia Foundation and being implemented under Free and Fair Election Network. | | Local Government: | | PAIMAN conducted a comprehensive research under the Free and Fair Election Network on the present scenario of the Local Govt. PAIMAN conducted the research in 36 Tehsils/Towns of Punjab and Sindh covering various districts including the entire Karachi. The main purpose of the research was to analyze the importance at various levels and the need to continue the present local government system in the country. The research had been done through Interviews, Focus Group Discussions, material review etc covering from district Nazims, the high officials of the local governments and the communities etc. | | 8. Event Management and Services | | | | | Paiman since its inception has been active in providing services in different capacities. PAIMAN arranges events for various projects/programs, fundraising events, trainings etc for its own and for other organizations as well. PAIMAN makes sure that all the services are provided at the right place and right time efficiently. | | SOUTH ASIAN WORKSHOP ON RESOURCES MOBILISATION 2006: | | In Agra, India there was a workshop on resource mobilization for continuous three years with the aim of resource mobilization. There were a number of countries present in it and PAIMAN was representing Pakistan. Almost 43 people attended it with PAIMAN. | | SOUTH ASIAN WORKSHOP ON RESOURCES MOBILISATION 2007-2008: | | In year 2007-8 Agra had the workshops and Staff members of PAIMAN attended it including Shafqat Mehmood, Mossarat Qadeem, Haseeb Kiyani and others. | | CARM – SRI-LANKA 2006: | | This workshop was arranged in 2006 in Colombo Sri Lanka PAIMAN was the organization from Pakistan. A number of members from PAIMAN attended it. Main aim of the workshop was fund raising and resource mobilization. | | CARM – SRI-LANKA 2007: | | Same conference was repeated in 2007 with the same aim of fund raising and resource mobilization | | CARM – SRI-LANKA 2008: | | Latest part of the workshop was in 2008 and PAIMAN once again was a part of it and Mr. Ameer Ali represented it this time. | | 19th INTERNATIONAL SOUTH ASIAN FUNDRAISING WORKSHOP (SAFRW) | | It was held at Jaypee Palace, Hotel & Convention Center Agra, from 23rd to 26th August 2007-8.
